Project Description

As part of efforts to improve educational infrastructure and ensure a suitable classroom environment during the winter season, Furatna Development Organization implemented a winter maintenance project for schools in Eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside. The project involved installing new doors and windows for 1,418 classrooms across 91 schools located within the Euphrates, Hajin, and Al-Sousa complexes. Additionally, thermal insulation was installed in 20 classrooms to enhance heating efficiency and reduce heat loss during cold months.

Project Objectives

  • Improve the learning environment by providing safe and suitable classrooms for winter.
  • Protect educational buildings from harsh weather conditions.
  • Enhance the comfort of students and teachers to encourage continuous learning.

Main Activities

  • Installing new doors and windows in all targeted classrooms.

As part of its ongoing efforts to support the educational process and enhance access to safe and motivating learning spaces, Furatna Development Organization implemented a school rehabilitation project targeting 13 schools in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. This initiative was a direct response to the growing needs of the education sector after years of damage and neglect.

Project Objectives

As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance technical skills and link training to the local labor market, Furatna Development Organization launched the Vocational Training Project 3 across the eastern and western countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The project began with the rehabilitation of Abu Hamam Industrial Secondary School, which was transformed into a fully equipped vocational training center.

Training Fields Included in the Project

  • Blacksmithing and Metalwork (Welding)
  • Furniture Carpentry
  • Aluminum Carpentry

Phase I of the Project

  • A total of 280 individuals received hands-on and theoretical training in the listed trades.
  • The training program emphasized practical learning to ensure readiness for the labor market.

Key Achievements and Community Impact

  • Following the completion of the training, the trainees successfully manufactured and installed doors and windows for 15 schools in Deir ez-Zor.
  • This output not only demonstrated their skills but also contributed directly to the region’s educational infrastructure and reconstruction efforts.
  • The project empowered young people to pursue employment or start their own small businesses, enhancing self-reliance and income generation.

Through this initiative, Furatna Development Organization continues to promote the principle of "learning by doing", and to support local economic recovery by building skilled labor essential to sustainable development.

As part of its ongoing efforts to empower youth and enhance their economic opportunities, Furatna Development Organization launched the Programming and Web Development Project in 2020. The project targeted 20 young beneficiaries from the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, aiming to equip them with in-demand technical skills in the growing digital job market.

Project Objectives

  • Build youth capacity in programming and website development.
  • Create freelance and remote work opportunities.
  • Bridge the digital divide between rural and urban areas.
  • Support youth to become active participants in digital transformation and local development.

Project Activities

  • A specialized 3-month training course covering:
    • Basic programming languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
    • Front-End Development techniques
    • Introduction to databases and Back-End programming
    • Building complete websites using open-source tools
  • Practical sessions and individual projects under expert supervision
  • Training on freelancing skills and self-marketing through online platforms
  • Technical support and mentoring after course completion

Key Results

As part of Furatona Development Organization’s ongoing efforts to create a safe and motivating educational environment, the Integrated Teams’ Schools Maintenance Project was launched as a complementary component to the Psychosocial Support and Literacy Project. Its goal is to provide a healthy school environment that enhances the quality of education and promotes the well-being of both students and teachers.

Project Objectives

  • Improve the infrastructure of schools where integrated team activities are conducted.
  • Ensure the safety of students and teachers within the school premises.
  • Provide a supportive educational environment that contributes to improving the quality of the learning process.

Project Activities

Comprehensive maintenance of the infrastructure in the targeted schools, including:

  • Repairing damaged doors and windows
  • Roof maintenance to prevent water leakage
  • Electrical repairs and installation of safe lighting sources
  • Rehabilitation of bathrooms and water/sewage systems
  • Painting and classroom enhancements to make them more suitable and attractive for students
  • Provision of essential school furniture such as desks and blackboards, as needed
  • Improvement of school yards by leveling grounds and creating areas for recreational activities

Expected Outcomes

  • Provide a clean, safe, and healthy educational environment for more than 4,500 students
  • Encourage students to attend regularly and actively participate in psychosocial and educational activities

Believing that the school environment must be safe, inclusive, and motivating, Furatona for Development launched the "Integrated Teams and Psychosocial Support" project to support the educational process and promote students' mental health in several schools across the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

Project Goals

  • Provide psychosocial support to students within the school environment.
  • Address educational challenges caused by prolonged school interruptions or weak foundational skills, especially in reading and writing.
  • Empower teachers to serve as both psychosocial supporters and educational facilitators.

Project Activities

  • Train integrated teaching teams of male and female teachers on basic psychosocial support concepts and literacy teaching methods.
  • Deploy these teams in 8 public schools operating during regular school hours to provide:
    • Psychosocial support sessions to promote behavioral adaptation and emotional relief.
    • Literacy and remedial education sessions for students with academic delays or learning gaps.
  • Coordinate with school administrations and educational supervisors to ensure the integration of support activities within the school schedules.

  • More than 4,590 students benefit from education and psychosocial support within their schools.

As part of its efforts to support livelihoods and strengthen the local economy, Furatona for Development launched the Beekeepers Support Project in several villages across the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. The project aims to empower rural families to make use of natural resources and diversify their income sources.

Project Goals

  • Enable beekeepers to launch small income-generating projects.
  • Improve the beneficiaries’ technical knowledge and skills in beekeeping.
  • Support the local economy by increasing the production of natural honey.

Project Activities

  • Select 75 beneficiaries from target villages based on clear and fair criteria ensuring efficiency and equity.
  • Provide beneficiaries with full beekeeping kits, including:
    • Modern beehives
    • Protective suits
    • Tools for inspection, feeding, and hive maintenance
  • Deliver specialized training sessions on:
    • Fundamentals of proper beekeeping
    • Hive management across different seasons
    • Prevention of common bee diseases
    • Marketing of bee products (honey, wax, etc.)

Expected Results

  • Increase household income for beneficiaries through the production of honey and other bee-related products.
  • Promote the culture of beekeeping as a sustainable source of income in rural communities.

As part of the ongoing rehabilitation of Irrigation Sector 6, Furatona for Development implemented a specialized project focused on the rehabilitation and maintenance of secondary pipelines and hydrant networks. This initiative ensures the efficient and stable distribution of irrigation water to agricultural lands in the targeted villages.

Project Goals

  • Improve water distribution in the agricultural villages within Sector 6.
  • Repair and enhance the operational efficiency of the secondary irrigation network.
  • Ensure water reaches as many farmers and beneficiaries as possible.

  • Repaired 1,200 malfunctioning hydrants that previously disrupted regular water flow.
  • Installed 400 new hydrants in strategic locations to expand coverage.
  • Rehabilitated sections of the secondary pipelines to ensure smooth water flow.
